Wellcome Genome Campus, just outside Cambridge, undertakes genome and biodata research. It provides bioinformatics resources for the global scientific community and delivers vital training in genomics and biodata to scientists and clinicians. The work that is done on site is at the interface of research and industry, translating science into tangible societal benefits. It hosts two of the world’s leading genomics institutions the Wellcome Sanger Institute and EMBL-EBI.

We accommodate pre-booked visits during the week, our Open Saturdays happen every third Saturday of the month are ticketed so you can sign up via our eventbrite page. When you arrive at the Campus please register at reception and they will point you in the direction of the Gallery. Please note we are not able to accommodate spontaneous visits.

By Car

There is plenty of parking available on site. Head to Hinxton Hall and the Conference Centre Car Park D.

From the South:
Leave the M11 at junction 9 (signed A11 Newmarket) and take the first exit signed A1301 towards Cambridge. From the roundabout take the first left (about 800 m). At the next small roundabout follow the signpost left for the ‘Genome Campus’.

From the North:
Leave the M11 at junction 10 (note that M11 junction 9 is restricted and only accessible from the South). Turn left at the roundabout and straight over the next roundabout. Travel a mile or so on the A505 in the direction of Saffron Walden. At the next roundabout take the third exit (signed A1301 towards Saffron Walden). Pass two turnings to Hinxton village (these go to the village only), and take a right, at the next roundabout, signposted on to the Genome Campus.

 

By Bus

You can pick up the number 7A from Trumpington Park and Ride which will take you to Hinxton village or the number 7 from Central Cambridge of Cambridge rail station that will take you to the neighbouring village Ickleton. 

 

By train

Whittlesford Parkway, Great Chesterford and Audley End are the closest railway stations to the Campus and these are all on the Cambridge-London Liverpool Street line. (Please note that Whittlesford and Great Chesterford stations do not have a taxi rank or telephone: use either Cambridge or Audley End stations if a taxi has not been pre-booked.) The journey time from London is approximately one hour.

Cambridge is the closest railway hub, it is on both the London King’s Cross and the London Liverpool Street line, and also serves trains coming from the north.

 

By Taxi

It is a good idea to pre-book a taxi when travelling to the Campus from a train station.
