The Asian hornet is the only species in this project that is not currently established in the UK, though nest sites have been found and destroyed in recent years. The Asian hornet is an efficient predator of honey bees, which could have a serious impact on beekeeping and agriculture. Genome sequencing will help researchers get one step ahead of the hornet.
