Building the Sulston Building

The end of the Human Genome Project signaled the beginning of the science of human genomics. The Sanger Centre became the Sanger Institute in 2001, said good bye to the old TIRL building, and built new lab spaces within the grounds of the estate.

The mapping of the human genome had created fertile ground on which to build further scientific developments for the Sanger Institute, in the field of global health and genomics.
