Common Pipistrelle Bat

The common pipistrelle bat is the most common bat species in the UK. It weighs the same as a 20 pence piece but can eat 3,000 insects in one night! It was thought to be one species but is now known to be two: common and soprano. This distinction is based on differences in their echolocation frequencies. Genomics will help to reveal more about how this split occurred.
