The de Freville’s were an aspirational family. Henry’s Godfather and second cousin, Edward Humphrys Green de Freville obtained the Queen’s gracious permission to bear the name and arms of the noble de Freville family of Great Shelford in 1850. He claimed a connection through ownership of the land over generations, although there is little evidence to authenticate this.
