The early years at the Sanger Centre had a strong family feel. The teams were small, everyone knew each other and everyone, despite their rank or role, mucked in to get the work done. Most occasions worth marking were celebrated together; from birthdays, public holidays, fireworks night, summer balls, to significant milestones in the scientific research. There was a lot of hard work, but there was also a fair amount of fun too!
