The photograph documents an imagined process of analysis and re-identification of genomic DNA sequence from anonymous donors, but carried using the obsolete technology of early DNA sequencing; transparencies, marker pens and the lightbox, rather than high-performance computers. The title refers to a donor’s approximate address, a postcode discovered by cross-referencing with other databases and social media. As makers, curators and distributors of genomic data we hold a great deal of responsibility. Donors need to remain informed about both the rewards and the risks, current and future, of this genomic revolution. We are all likely to have our own genomic record soon.
