‘The murals of the Pompeian Room were uncovered and restored to their former glory by art conservator Pauline Plummer. The restoration, carried out in 1996/97, took around fourteen months and cost over £150,000. Once completed the paintings were described by the Cambridge Evening News as being ‘unique’ and of ‘national importance.’ The damaged wall paintings were reconstructed by Mrs. Plummer and her team based on photographs of original Pompeiian art work.’
