The Northern February red stonefly only lives by clean water, and it is an endemic species, meaning that it is only found in the UK. Because of a number of habitat changes, including acidification and chemical pollution, the locations of this stonefly are increasingly restricted. It is mainly found in North East Scotland and the Highlands. Like other at-risk species, studying its genome could help with its conservation.
