This is the sound of two different DNA sequencing machines, reading each letter of our genetic code at their own pace. The ABI 370A came out around the time I was learning to read. It sounds older. A bit slow, maybe, but still steady. The tiny MinION was born 30 years later, as my daughter started her own first words. It races by, faster than I ever could have imagined.
