Once restricted to saltmarsh habitats, the chirp of Roesel’s bush-cricket can now be heard in many parts of England. Researchers have questioned whether the increased use of salt on our roads is enabling the bush-cricket to spread to new habitats. By studying its genome, researchers may be able to discover genes that enable the bush-cricket to have an increased tolerance to salt.
