For me, genomics is about exploration. It is a chance to understand a hidden language that unites all life yet at the same time, almost paradoxically, underscores biological diversity. Genomics can also provide a new paradigm for understanding ourselves. As we age the cells in our body all undergo mutations in their DNA. Thus, our bodies are an ever-changing mosaic of mutations. Some of these mutations can cause cells to behave strangely, spreading throughout the body as cancerous metastases.
